This small pot and lid were left to me by my late brother...

This item was left to me a year ago by my late brother. I have been unable to find out anything about it. He served in the US Army for over 21 years and had been stationed all over the world. I know some of the items he left came from South Korea. But I don't know if this pot came from Asia or Walmart. Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thank you. Larry

I'm not expert at all in this kind of item. My knowledge is limited to antique items of China, and as I have been living in Japan and been many times in Korea, I have some basic knowledge about these cultures and their traditional crafts. I cannot recognize this as belonging to either, so it is likely neither antique nor tradtional.
I can see for example the Chinese hat used by the male, but otherwise everything is unrecognizable.
The way the faces and hair is painted looks 20th century (2nd half) to me.
Just to clarify things a bit more. I would think this was perhaps rather meant for export or the sale to tourists.

I must say I am very impressed with the speed of your reply Peter ! So in your opinion this item is not very old and most likely not worth anything ? I must say as someone who knows nothing about Asian pottery, I thought the colors and the details were amazing. At close scrutiny it appears to be hand painted. But you are the expert ,so I guess I should just donate it to a local Goodwill store ?

Hi, the decoration style is unknown to me, the mark has some resemblance to Japanese marks, but is either abbreivated or a copy.
Most of such items I have seen were likely modern items made in China or SE Asia. To me this looks unlike any traditional Japanese, Chinese or Korean craft.
