Small Dish

by Bob Brown
(Singapore)

I have a small porcelain blue and white dish - feels like stoneware to me. It also looks likes its hand painted. The person who sold it to me says its antique. I'm just wondering how old it is.

This is definitely Japanese, Mitsumine, from Minoyaki pottery of Gifu prefecture. See picture on

another bowel with sanfeng mark
by: Catriona

I have a small bowl with blue and white floral flow ware design with the same mark. Bought at a charity shop in Scotland for $2.00 so unlikely to be very old or very valuable but delicate and very pretty. Would love to know if it is Japanese and how old it is.

Does anyone one know this san feng (three peaks) mark and where is is from?

Hi Bob,
Can't help much with this. Seems to be Japanese. The mark (Sanfeng in Chinese) means three peaks would probably read Mitsumine in Japanese. It can be a place name or a family name.
Last month I believe, there was another enquiry regarding such an item.

You will have to check on Japanese porcelain to find its age. Maybe, someone else can tell if it is Arita ware or not.
