Thank you for your comment. It is always gratifying to hear that what I'm doing is useful!
Do you specialize on Chinese porcelain, or other antiques also?

oblique foot rim
by: McCandless

Thanks Peter for your description of the 18th century foot rim. I have looked carefully and it is as you described for 18th century. I have also compared it to known 18th century pieces in my collection. I have purchased your ebook and found it enjoyable. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with those of us who have the same passion for porcelain.

saucer

Hi again.
Although the glaze and decoration looks antique, the foot rim does not look like a rim from the 18th century. But, with saucers it is sometimes more difficult to tell than with larger plates, especially from pictures.
An 18th century rim should have an oblique face either on the outside, or both the outside and inside. Otherwise it would probably be 19th century. A 19th century rim would have straight faces (thickness of the rim about the same over its whole height). 18th century plate rims should be thicker near the bottom.

As saucers do sometimes have very low rims, it can be difficult to tell without actually feeling the rim.
Personally I think the decoration itself should fit the 18th century. So, I am unable to tell if it is 18th or later without actually handling it, in this case.
