Really old looking pottery

by Daniel

Hi,

I'm not usually a collector of Chinese porcelain due to the high number of fakes and replicas in the market these days. However, I currently have the opportunity to purchase this set of very old looking Chinese pottery. Do you have any idea if it is actually old (and not a modern reproduction), and if it is Chinese? The set will cost a pretty penny, and the seller doesn't know a thing about the items. I guess I need help: I really like the rustic look of these pieces, but at the same time don't want to waste money on something I don't know about.

Thank you so very much for your time.

Hello,
It would be best if you could upload picture of the single items. Or, alternatively, you could post larger pictures on Photobucket or a similar site, and then post the link here.
What would be needed is a detailed view of the side (decoration), bottom and interior of each item.

With the jar I will be unable to help, I'm afraid. Until now I do not know what or from where this is, although I have seen it a couple of times.
It does not look Chinese. Chinese jars would usually have a collar that is a bit higher, and the decoration would be a bit more expressive, I would think.
So, I am currently assuming that it could be Southeast Asian.
Generally said, with the type of item you have I would recommend to check out sites with pictures of shipwreck items, especially from the Ca Mau and Hoi An shipwrecks, but also others. There is a good chance that they could be Ming or Vietnamese porcelain contemporary to Ming.
