Please identify this large pot

This large pot was purchased in Sri Lanka. The dealer claimed it was from a chieftan's house and 300 years old. I'm afraid the iphone pictures don't do it justice. Could anyone tell me more about it?

I'm afraid this looks more like an item that was made in recent times to cheat unknowing tourists.
There is virtually nothing on this item that would do that period justice.
