blue and white jar
by: peter

Hi Norma,
I'm afraid I cannot help you much with Southeast Asian items, as these are from a completely different tradition. It is sometimes even difficult with Chinese items from non-mainstream kilns. But, I doubt this is Chinese, as I said. The mark isn't Chinese either.
I would check on shipwreck sited of the South China Sea. You could also check out koh-antiques.com, they have many shipwreck items on their site.

Hello Peter and thank your for your comment.
I can send additional photos, in hopes that you can elaborate further for the drawing on the vase. I have always imagined that it told some sort of story...
I can include a close-up of the signature at the bottom in hopes of more comment of your expertise.
Thanks so much,
Norma

jar
by: peter

Hello,
The pictures are a bit too small to recognize details, but the overall impression is that of certain shipwreck porcelain items.
Basically, the shape does not look Chinese. Although it may resemble a Chinese ginger jar, its shape is somewhat different. The decoration is not detailed enough, but it could very well be Vietnamese and have some age, as Vietnam was a big exporter of ceramics in centuries past.
