Modified porcelain item

Sample of porcelain box.
Usually shards or lids seem to be used for these modifications. Not sure what the metal is...

metal replacements
by: peter

No Dave, I have no idea when and where these were made. But this is nothing new. Some antiques are found with metal replacements that are obviously already antique themselves too. Min would be a few decades at the most, maybe only ten years or so?
This was probably a lid that was converted to a box.

I don't think you will find any label. These are likely made in small work shops, not factories.

I had not noticed one before, but yours does seem to have the same type of setting. Is this something you see often, and do you know any time period. My thoughts were maybe 10 or 20 yr. old and made for just deco use. I thought it may have just had a label on it that has worn off.

No matter what it does look great. Now I just need to find it a home.

Thanks again
Dave
