longlife character plate

Mona,
This is a "Shou" (or Long Life) character plate. The central round blue decoration depicts the character for Long Life. These plates were made in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The mark of this one seems to place it in the Jiaqing reign (1796-1820). This is a guess because the mark looks like if it were from that reign. It is not fully visible because of the metal strip.

The central character medallion is somewhat unusual. The lines are round while they are usually drawn in straight lines at ninety degree angles. Also, there are two characters in the center which aren't there, normally.
Do a Google image search with this: "寿字盘"
and you will find many similar plates.

Mona,
No, don't remove it. I will try first to find out what it is. Looks similar to another type of plate, but the center is different.
