Large Colorful Plate with Impressed Oriental Mark

by John

Oval Plate

Oval Plate

This platter is decorated with thick raised but delicate gold vines, purple flowers, and green & yellow leaves. The only mark is an impressed circle 5/16 inch in diameter between the two oval feet. The circle encloses a stick-figure of a man wearing a triangular hat beneath an open rectangle with some lines in it. Do you know if the plate is oriental, and how old it might be? Thanks very much.

The characters in the mark seem to mean "Zhou Ping" in Chinese, a name apparently.

But I cannot tell for sure whether it is Chinese, but looks factory made. It doesn't seem to be a Chinese mark, or it is modern. The decoration could be Japanese or European. Cannot tell you about the age, I'm afraid.
