Is jar Chinese or Japanese

Hi there!

I need to know if this jar is either Chinese or Japanese.What the gold mark means. Also when it was made and how much it is worth. Don't have a clue about it. It was my husbands grandmothers. I know she did go to China. Any information is greatly appreciated.
