Iron burner marked Da Ming Xuang De

by YUMEI

I bought this at a local auction. It's marked Da Ming Xuang De. Was it really made during that period?

Thanks a lot for your time.

Xuande mark on censer
by: peter

Hi Yumei,
With metal items the actual age is difficult to tell because metals are easier tampered with than porcelain, in order to make them look old or antique.

What concerns the mark, the majority of censers which I have seen until now, either bronze or brass, had a Xuande mark regardless when they were actually made. I suspet it is the same with cast iron.
In fact, even brand new censers frequently have that mark; the mark is still being used today, probably for decorative purposes.

This means, we cannot rely on the mark to decide age. I'm afraid I cannot help you with this.
