INFORMATION ON POSSIBLE DATE OF MANUFACTURE OF VASE

by Andrew

Hello Peter,
came across this porcelain vase in a shop being sold as English Poole ware.
I think it might be a very delicate shade of pink peachbloom, Chinese.
If you can confirm this as likely & possible period of manufacture would be great.
Vase is ball shaped & 4.75"high.
Has very fine & faint all over crazing to glaze.
Glaze stops naturally & perfectly short of the foot & has not been ground or trimmed in any way.
The base has a very fractured crystalline white glaze.
Last image shows interior with pronounced dimple & stained crazing, with white interior glaze showing multiple black flecks & some pit holes.
regards,Andrew.

REPLY TO PETER'S OBSERVATIONS

Hi Peter,
the pink tone is actually very much lighter in colour than shown on the computer screen.
There is a larger area on the vase's surface which is of a mottled greyish pearly bloom, you can only see it when looking at the surface's lustre, at an angle; & you also have to look pretty closely to see where the faint pink starts to intensify.
The only other reference to pale pink I found in
Bushells Oriental Ceramic Art, Plate L, in which there is a photograph of a pale pink vase, which he describes as "a pinkish pearl- grey of charmingly uniform colour"...the index in this book, shows that the vase in Plate L is listed under the heading of peachbloom transmutations & from the K'ang-hsi period.
But mine does not look old enough & is not one of the Sacred Eight Shapes encountered from that time.
thanks for sharing Peter.
regards, Andrew.

pink vase
by: peter

Hi Andrew,
I have a pink vase here with a similar tone. which I thought originally to be early republic. After a while I felt it would probably be rather later in the 20th century.
I'm not sure about this one either, but basically pink was rarely used, and this tone of pink is almost unseen.
I'm afraid I can't make up my mind with this.
