ID Vase with one line Mark.

Mark on the bottom

Mark on the bottom

Brought back this vase from china a few years ago. It was from a very private old collection. The mark on the bottom is horizontal, and I have not seen many of these. Please look at the pictures and let me know if you can help me identify the piece.

I agree with peter that the picture shows the mark being a mirror image of a Yongzheng mark. The painting style showing Westerners however, are more in fashion during Qianlong's period.

Even though some paintings of Westerners at the time show the typical Westerner outfits baring female shoulders and cleavage, I don't think they have gotten to the point of being able to accept seeing completely naked breasts like these on a vase.

Hi Brad,
The mark is a mirror image of what it should be. If this is what the mark really looks like, it is wrong.
This is a Qing dynasty Yongzheng reign mark.
This type of subject (foreigners painted in a western manner) is known to me only from the Qianlong reign.

As the pictures are small and the lighting isn't natural, I cannot comment on colors, etc.
If it were genuine, it would have to be something Sothebys might be interested in.
I cannot judge this one, however, as I have seen too few such items. But, the likelihood of getting the real thing in China within the last five or six years is remote (unless a price of five or six digits was involved), in my view.
I would suggest you ask for a second opinion.
