Gregorius, I think this is European, not Chinese, despite mentioning "Canton".
It could be European Chinoiserie (European porcelain copying Chinese motifs).
My reasoning is that while there are similarities with Chinese decorations. some details, and especially the colors are not right for antique or traditional Chinese porcelain. The style is somewhat different. The other is the mark, which looks typical European.
If you clean the sediment from the lower part of the mark, you should find the manufacturer's name. Looks as if the word starting with "R" might be "Regent". Probably English...
I assume that CANTON points either to the style of the plate, or that the actual painting was done in Canton (the same way as some items were painted in Hong Kong or Macao).
Some items were custom painted in the Far East for use in Europe.
