The shape is different; your type was given the name temple jar in the west, due to the shape of the lid.

Yes, most likely.

Yes, probably. The name is not a normal company of factory name as used in Chinese.

It means this is only a few decades old, at the most. It is also not painted in traditional Chinese colors, but resembles somewhat Japanese porcelain.

Excuse My ignorance Peter, but whats the difference between a Ginger Jar and a Temple Jar. Does the Date 1971 Refer to Manufacture. Does a Private mark mean it was commissioned for someone.
What in your expert opinion does it all mean.

This would be a temple jar, not a ginger jar.
The mark reads "Qiongzhou Yiyuan", a private mark (does not seem to be a factory mark).
