Many such facing pairs have been made from soft stones like alabaster and soapstone, to be used as book-end weights (or at least something more decorative to be placed on the simple cutout metal-sheet brackets), since the 1920s or so. These are for tourists or export. Molded composite materials could have lead weights added from the bottom.

This forum is about antique Chinese porcelain.

No idea, but these things are still being made.
From the pictures they look pretty new, I would say.
Are you sure this is stone? They make a lot of so-called stone carvings by pouring cement and/or other material into a mold.

The crevices/scratches are all white. With old ones they should be darkened by dirt, not white.
