Hai Peter,

What do think about this plate, lots of colors. 23cm, strange looking seal mark.

Rgds Anton.

Amsterdams Bont
by: Anton

Hai Peter,

Thanks for your reply. It's possible it's painted in Holland. I've been reading about "Amsterdams Bont". Chinese and Japanese wares decorated or Overdecorated by the dutch in the 1700's. I think this is an example of this.

Rgds Anton.

I cannot read the mark. Either it is gibberish or an Asian non-alphabetic language. It isn't one of the three large Far Eastern languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) which I can distinguish.

The decoration looks neither typical Chinese nor Japanese.
I would think it is Japanese, if it weren't for the foot rim, which is distinctly 17th or 18th century, Chinese.
Sorry, but that is all I can tell. The body for sure is antique.
Would like to know if it was painted later, or if that is something I do not know yet. Would have to do a hands-on to tell more, I'm afraid.
