Chinese Ginger Pot?

by Jim
(Denver)

Dear Peter,
Is this a ginger pot or something else? Also, can you determine the age of the pot from the marking?

As always, Thank You.

Jim

The tiny type looks like warning against using for food since glaze has lead. This warning was put on ceramics from China beginning in 1980s. Still could have been decorated outside China proper.

Yes, this is a ginger jar. The decoration is not anything typical Chinese. It gives a modern impression. Probably no more than a few decades old.
I cannot decipher anything but "Made in China" on the mark, but have seen such marks. Possibly decorated in Hong Kong or Macao.
Anything with "Made in China" was made in the 20th century or later.
Smearing the bottom is one of the techniques used for making an item look old. It should be removable.
