Chinese Bowl with Metal Mounts

by Joe
(Sydney Australia)

Hi Peter,

I purchase this bowl at an auction. What do you think is its age.

The bowl has a lot of chinese inscriptions and pictures of children at play.

The metal mounts appear to be made of brass, and is decorated with phoenix, dragon and lion heads.

Best Regards
Joe

Hello,
Brass cannot be that silvery gray color unless it has been plated with another metal, or if the zinc content is so high that it can hardly be called brass anymore. Brass is a copper alloy that usually has a copper content of 70% or more. So it should appear yellowish to dark brown, usually.
The porcelain bowl looks as if it were recently made (new) and as far as I can discern the writing includes simplified characters .
