Antique Marks Books

For the serious collector few ceramics marks books for identifying Chinese porcelain are available. Unfortunately, at present there seems to be only one major book available in English. And it is a bit pricey, no doubt because of the many photographs it contains.

This book is:

THE NEW AND REVISED
HANDBOOK OF MARKS ON CHINESE CERAMICS

Author: Gerald Davison
ISBN 978-0-9564518-0-4
Number or marks: approx. 3400 Chinese ceramics marks

(see more details and pictures of content below)

A Marks book in Chinese:

For those who are more adventurous and are/were ready to learn a bit Chinese to make the identification of marks possible, there is a Chinese marks book commonly used in the Chinese speaking world. There are a few others, but this is thought to be the best one as of 2015:

中國歷代陶瓷款識大典

By the author:
Almost 10 years in the making it is the only reference work in any language to deal so exhaustively with the entire range of these very diverse marks. This time, the almost 3,400
individual marks are beautifully reproduced in colour and compiled in sections and groupings to make recognition of such unfamiliar shapes as easy as possible.
