Miniature vase/ bottle

by Andy
(London)

Hi Peter and all. Just wondered if you could help me with any info on a small vase/ bottle ( 9cm high, 5cm in diameter) which I do believe to be Chinese and old. It has puzzled me for a while now as I cannot find anything in my research quite like it so far. For something so small the glaze is stunning and reminds me of 'Robins egg' with the tiniest of black dots within a green glaze. No surprises in that it is not marked and hopefully the images might fill in all of the other blanks. If there is anything you may be able to tell me about it I would be much obliged. I also have a small Wucai jar that I will send details of in another post. Kind regards Andy

Yes it is an odd one

You may be correct and maybe I am barking up the wrong tree with it being Chinese. It is certainly not modern but yes the form does look modern and yes the glaze not quite right for Robins egg. There is a small vase in the V & A with the same form and size but just in a plain monochrome glaze. I am completely foxed. Thank you for you imput and help. Andy

I'm afraid I cannot help with this. To me neither the shape nor the coloration looks Chinese.
It could be modern Chinese, though, but this is a different matter. The robin's egg glaze you mention has usually much finer dots.
