Ginger Jar with no markings

by Mark
(Las Vegas, NV)

This is about 16 1/4 inches tall with lid and about 10 inches wide. I have spent numerous hours at the library and on the internet trying to find anything about this. I don't even know if it's Chinese or Japanese. I would greatly appreciate any information you could give me or point me in the right direction. Thank You very much

temple jar
by: peter

Hello,
This is Chinese. Usually this is called a temple jar in English, the Chinese call it a general's jar.
If you do a Google image search with the following ("冰梅 將軍罐") you will see scores of pictures resembling your item.
Whether it is of an earlier is difficult to tell from these pictures, but it is more likely to be from the late Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
