SNUFF BOTTLE WITH BONE SCOOP

by JENNA
(LONG BRANCH )

HI PETER,
I THOUGHT IF ANYONE WOULD KNOW WHAT THIS WAS IT WOULD BE YOU. THE OWNER OF THIS BELIEVES THIS TO BE AN 18TH CENTURY SNUFF BOTTLE. IT APPEARS TO BE A RAT BUT AS YOU WILL SEE IN THE PICTURES THE TAIL IS RATHER BUSHY. IT IS IN GOOD CONDITION BESIDE FOR THE FACT THAT IT IS MISSING AN EAR. THE SHOVEL/SPOON IS BONE AND SEEMS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE TOP WITH SOME KIND OF CORK? IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT THIS AND WHAT IT IS OR A TIME FRAME IT WOULD BE A GREAT HELP!
THANKS IN ADVANCE,
JENNA

Porcelan

Looks like this cute little snuff bottle is made of porcelan to me..

It does have some age, but since I am not an expert with the porcelan bottles, Early 20th Century is just a guess.

Neat bottle !

Looks like a squirrel snuff bottle. I am not too familiar with them but from memory, all the one at auction typically have semiprecious stones as the knob and I don't think this one has it. It could be valuable if it is made out of ivory but I don't think that is the case either. Try the forum Peter talked about.

Sorry Jenna,
I have never seen anything like this. I couldn't know what or from when it is, I'm afraid. Maybe someone else knows. There is a snuff bottle forum out there. I would try to find it.
