Yongzheng Vase

by Jane Smythe
(Fairfax, Va.)

Thank you for taking my inquiry,
I have what I believe to be a Youngzheng period vase. I'd like to know if it's a good bet to be authentic, or perhaps anything you can tell me about it..
Thank you kindly,
Jane Smythe

Thank you for taking a look at my vase, and for your opinion. Guess it's just a different looking vase but not the "real" thing.
Thanks again,
Jane

Hello,
I doubt that it is a period item for several reasons.
1. The blue or blueish color is very strange. It doesn't look like the usualy underglaze blue, nor like the on-glaze blue colot used at the time.
2. The mark looks as if it were enameled on top of the glaze. It should be under the glaze.
3. A horse and a mythical animal on the same item would at least be rare. In addition, the horse appears to have a harness, which is quite strange.
4. The way the limbs of these animals are painted would be more recent/western, not the type one would expect.

The body of this vase could be older than the decoration; that is, the decoration and mark were possibly added in recent times using modern styles.
This is my personal view. Please ask for a second opinion.
