Where is this vase from?

by Chris
(Miami)

I bought this vase a few years back in Shanghai. Not sure if I paid too much, but as far back as I can remember, I think I paid like $200 at this antique store. I would like to know more information this vase. Thanks a lot.

Well, it is from China, and yes, you probably paid too much for it. It is not antique.
The mark is a Qing dynasty Jiaqing reign (early 19th century), but it is apocryphal.

The colors and glaze appear to be from the 20th century. Some details like the bats are painted not in the traditional manner, etc. This means it is probably late 20th century, in my view. Not an antique.
