cleaning antiques
by: peter

Hi Kenny,
I think you are doing the right thing. Some people use strong household cleaners, but these may damage an item in the long term, if residues are lodged in fissures or cracks.
If the soiling is not removable, just leave it. Soil residues of items that have been excavated may not be removable as they may have seeped into the glaze or clay, or otherwise adhere strongly to the surface.

Dear Peter,

What are your experience or you know the best thing to clean an antique ceramics? I usual clen it with detergent which use for kitchen, washing clothes and especially for cleaning tile. Or you have any another suggestion?

antique

Kenny,
The glaze is important sometimes to verify items. Kindly upload closeups of glaze and foot, next time. We would like to verify usually whether an item is more recent or very early. There are too many presented that are not old.
That said, did you try washing the yellow-brown substance at the bottom?

Let's wait and see if someone knows what it is.
Personally I think it could be Southeast Asian made, rather than Chinese. This kind of shape of the top (like a stupa) would be rather unusual for Chinese taste ceramics.
