Vintage Hand Painted Thousand Flower Vase??

by Sharon Huitt
(Esparto, CA)

I just purchased a vase from a thrift store, it's tall and urn shaped, and has all different kinds of hand painted flowers all over the vase. There all pastel colors, with a shiny glaze. When you run your hand over the vase, it has an etched feel to it. There's no mark on the bottom, but some cut a hole, so it must have removed the mark. I'm guessing maybe they were going to make a lamp out of it?? I've been researching and I've found a few vintage chinese porcelain vases that are called thousand flowers, and mine looks like this type of vase. How would I be able to tell if it is really a vintage chinese vase, since there's a hole in the bottom? I would appreciate any feedback on this, thanks!

millefiori vase

??? There is a mark but no hole, and the item doesn't look very tall.
But, it is a 'millefiori' aka 'mille fleur' item of Chinese origin. Later in the 20th century, probably. Yes, I think 'vintage' is more probable than antique.
