Tongzhi marks

by James
(California)

Recently there was a good discussion about Tongzhi marks. I downloaded some that I found on Christy's (mostly) and Sotheby's websites for all to see and discuss.

Hi Peter,

I got these images from the Sotheby's and Chrisite's websites after typing in a search for Tongzhi mark. I try to "collect" images mainly for reference but also for enjoyment since I can't own them all, haha:) Then I just uploaded some relevant ones. I'll try to post links instead in the future so you won't get in trouble.

I know James, it happens to all of us. :-)
It's necessary to keep the blog on track so that it won't affect the site overall. Since we had to go after some sites copying our content it is better to stay clean ourselves. Thanks again for your understanding.

Tongzhi marks

I have seen all types shown except the one of the Gu vases which I know only in blue. Even my books don't show these in red. Does it mean they exist only for imperial level items?

James,

Thanks for the post.

I would be grateful if you could post links to the pages or images instead of posting the images directly, if you don't mind.
I'm not sure what the position of auction houses is regarding copyright, but as items as well as pictures are owned by someone else, I would like to avoid problems. Google regularly spiders the blog and images as well as pages can appear in Google searches.

Thanks for you understanding.

Peter
