Procelain Rose Vases

by Linda Montabone
(Delta,Ont Canada)

Hello Peter,

I found these the other day and wondered about them, I can't find any similar in colour or shape. The top has a small rim. They are hand made , no molding marks found and they have blacked out marks on the bottom. Should I remove the black? It is fired on.

3 inch bottom rings, 7 1/2 inches tall 342 grams & 365 grams
Thanks
Linda

If the black material was fired in the kiln, you cannot remove it, if it is just stuck on this should do no harm. The surface of fired porcelain is vitrified and hard as glass.

The shape is a Chinese shape, but this type of red color is of later 20th century origin. Cannot be very old, I think.
