PLEASE HELP ME TO IDENTIFY THIS

by WIRA SATRIA
(MALAYSIA)

Hi Peter,

I barter traded this plate with my friend who is an ocean diver. He claimed that it was found somewhere in the Malacca Straits. Can you help me to authenticate it?

Thanks Peter

Thank you very much for your Very Fast reply. I really appreciate it. I have more interesting items which I need to ask you later.

Thanks again.

blue and white plate, Qianlong
by: peter

Hi, yes this looks as if it were Qianlong era export porcelain.
There are probably still a number of wrecks in the straits. But most of them may be older, like those found and researched by Nanhai Marine(see mingwrecks.com).
There are shipwreck items on the market of about the same period as this plate, 18th century. The yellow color of yours is a bit baffling, though. This usually points to excavated items, items from the sea tend to be whitish due to adhering marine sediment. Anyway, both decoration and foot rim look authentic. :-)
