Hi Annemiek, This is a brush holder. This kind of bottom cannot be Chinese. Also, part of the decoration or rather the painting strokes (the tree, etc.) are unusual for classical Chinese. On the other hand, the sail boat and birds on the back look more Japanese.
The conclusion therefore must be it is either new or not Chinese.
