Large Chinese Vase

by Candace
(San Francisco Bay Area)

Hello,
I have just recently been given a very large Chinese vase which was my grandmothers, and I was wondering if someone here might be able to interepret the markings on the bottom to help me learn a little more about the vase. I'm not sure if it is an antique or not. Also, the vase is very large about 3 feet tall. Any help would be greatly apprectiated!

Thanks,
Candace

Hi Candace,
Thanks for providing additional pictures.
This is not an antique. I cannot tell for sure when it was made, but it is from the second half of the 20th century. My personal view is that it even could be second quarter.

This would probably be classified as 'famille rose', but it is possibly printed. The original antiques were enameled and the surface would no have been smooth.
The faces show a painting style that is from later in the 20th century. In addition, the bottom is not right for an antique. I originally thought that the mark could have been added later, but it is irrelevant as the vase is younger than what I expected.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for responding to my post. The stamp is not on paper, it is directly on the bottom of the vase. Here are some more pictures. I hope these help.

Thanks!
Candace

Hi Candace,
For evaluation purposes closeup pictures of some parts of the decoration are necessary. See the image gallery for examples of how detailed closeup pictures should be. These should also include as shot of some faces, and a clear image of the bottom and the foot rim.

Is the stamp on paper? It means 'Imitation of Qing dynasty, Qianlong'. Nevertheless, I would rather see the pictures than rely on this.

You can also upload pictures to a picture site like Photobucket and post the link here.
