mark on Japanese vase
by: peter

Hello,
The oval seal stamp says Maegawa, a Japanese name, probably the artisan's name. The right mark says "Made in Japan" with "Imari" inserted in between. Imari is a Japanese porcelain style as well as the name of a port in Kyushu from which Japanese ceramics have been exported from at least since the 17th century.
