Hi!

My great grandfather was a highly reputable collector/dealer of fine antiques. I inherited this piece (among numerous others) which has been a source of mystery for eons. I've never been able to identify the mark on the base of the porcelain Ginger jar nor found out what date it originated from. I recall my great grandfather always advising it was 18th century & quite valuable - but I've no idea whether or not that's accurate. This piece has no chips, cracks, breaks, or rough glazing anywhere...it's in perfect condition.

Sorry the photos are a tad blurry - I used my cell phone to capture the images.

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Andrea

Hello,
The photos are indeed not clear enough to see the mark or decoration clearly.
However, if this is Asian then it would have to be Japanese or something else.
It is unlikely that this decoration is Chinese.
Also, 18th century Chinese marks on the bottom of items were usually either written in the format 2x2 or 2x3 characters, not in a single row or column. The latter would also point to something else than Chinese.
