Identify my Chinese vase

by Sukey ODonnell
(Marion, NC)

Hi Peter,
Will you please tell me how old my vase is, what materials it is made from, if the mark is significant and whether it is valuable? It stands about 22 inches tall. A friend gave this to me about 1970. She told me her grandfather bought it in China around 1900. I've always wondered about the history of the vase.

Any information you can give me would be appreciated.

Thank you
Sukey

Millefiori vase
by: peter

Hi,
That is a Millefiori vase. If you search Google for images under this name or "Millefleur" you will find pictures of similar items.

This one is late Qing or early republic, probably rather on the later side.
The center mark is a spurious Qianlong mark. The two "China" marks are more indicative of the approximate period it was made, as the use of these fall approximately in the same period.
