Help identifying this octogon lidded jar

by Kathy Clark
(Hartselle, Alabama)

This is something I got at an auction. They said is was old Chinese, but I have not idea if they were correct or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kathy

Hi Kathy,
I'm afraid, this one is recent. I would give it 20-30 years at the most.
But, it is not necessary to look at the antique itself to know that with this one. The Qianlong imperial mark is too easy to detect as spurious.

If you go to more local auctions, please be careful with Chinese antiques. Mostly they don't seem to have the expertise (or experts) to identify Chinese antiques reliably, fakes and newer items abound.
