I recently received a vase with three marks on the bottom. Can you please identify what they say or be able to identify when the vase was produced? Thank you.
I, too, have a very old and ornate cup and saucer from Japan. A Japanese exchange student translated it as "Shimamura made". I have tried for years to find out something about Shima mura. There was a famour "courtesan" in Japan by that name. Also, a well known ceramic artist who is close to being contemporary. I am now wondering if ShimaMura could be a location?

Hi, the mark says "Made by Shimamura". This is a Japanese item, it appears. I know little about Japanese porcelain. I would try to start researching with the maker's name. It is easier than with Chinese porcelain as there are less manufacturers there.
