Help identifying marks please

by Bill

Hi,

I recently received a vase with three marks on the bottom. Can you please identify what they say or be able to identify when the vase was produced? Thank you.

Shima Mura Made Cup and Saucer
by: Anonymous

I, too, have a very old and ornate cup and saucer from Japan. A Japanese exchange student translated it as "Shimamura made". I have tried for years to find out something about Shima mura. There was a famour "courtesan" in Japan by that name. Also, a well known ceramic artist who is close to being contemporary. I am now wondering if ShimaMura could be a location?

vase mark
by: peter

Hi, the mark says "Made by Shimamura".
This is a Japanese item, it appears. I know little about Japanese porcelain. I would try to start researching with the maker's name. It is easier than with Chinese porcelain as there are less manufacturers there.
