Help identifying hand-painted chinese bowl w/ floral motif

by Jeremiah
(Seattle, Washington, USA)

I am trying to identify a bowl I recently acquired. I am curious if anyone can translate the writing or is familiar with the mark. I'm curious if it is early republic or a more modern piece. The bowl appears to be hand painted and features a floral motif.

Great find! One dollar for these, that exceeds all I know... :-)

One question, would you mind me putting the pictures up in the visitor gallery after some resizing? I think the color is very interesting - green is rare for this type of bowl.
The visitor gallery is meant to display visitor's pictures.

Thanks so much for your help. I actually have two
of these that I rescued from a thrift store bin where they were about to be crushed under other items. Regardless of what their actual value may be, it will have been a good investment regardless as I only payed under $1 for the two of them. :)

Jeremiah,

I cannot give an opinion of the value, as this is very subjective and depends on the market you sell it in. Just for your consideration, I have seen this type of bowl many times, so it is not rare (yet), but the gilt of yours is in rather good condition, the base color is green (usually it is red), and the painting is mostly some sort of landscape. Difficult... I would be interested to know the value if such an item too. :-)

But, I will take the liberty to send you a web address to your hotmail account. This is the lowest priced valuation service I know of.

Peter,

In your opinion what would be fair market value for a piece like this?

Thank you! 1900-1930 was my guess as well. There are no other markings on it and nothing on the bottom. Unfortunately, I had to scale the image down to under 1MB which made the mark too small to see.

Hello,

The four big characters are common Chinese well-wishing characters meaning "flowers open wealth and honour". The other would probably be a signature, but it is not distinguishable. Looks like a bowl of the 1900s (perhaps 1900-1930). Bottom and inside pictures would help with identification.

Nice item!
