Barry,

There is a good chance that this is Shiwan pottery, and that it has some age, but I couldn't tell how old.
Shiwan is a kiln that was (and is) specialized on figurines.
Here is a page with a picture of another Shiwan Foo Dog. In Chinese they are called Lions, Foo Dog is used mainly in the west.
Maybe another visitor of the site has more information...
