Fake Antique ?

by Long

Hi Peter;
I was wondering if you could help me to have a quick look at this listing on eBay. Is it another fake antique or is it a genuine one?

Thanks a lot!

Hi, I couldn't tell for sure. Monochromes are difficult, sometimes. I can see why you are interested, the age signs are very intriguing . :-)

The problem with monochromes is that you have less points of reference for evaluation.
Here all seems to be right, but I'm not sure about the foot rim. I see too many fakes with that sort of rim. The few middle/late Qing monochromes I have all have a narrow foot rim, not a flat one.
Personally, I mostly stay away from items with this type of rim. In the pictures it also looks as if the unglazed clay (paste) of the foot rim is a bit too dense. I would only buy this if I could do a hands-on inspection of the rim with a magnifier.
