Double Gourd Vase

I would very much appreciate your opinion regarding the likely age and origin of my Gourd vase. It was sold to me as Chinese but now I wonder if it is in fact Japanese in the Chinese style. It has several rust spots and though the glaze has disappeared in some areas it is unusually glazed on the bottom with 5 kiln stilt spots. Is it possible that it is earlier than 19th century?
Paula.

Hi Paula.
I agree that it probably is Japanese. The proportions are unusual for a Chinese gourd vase. The decoration and bottom also give the feeling of a Japanese item.
Could it be earlier than the 19th century? The whiteness of the glaze points to a later time, if it were Chinese. But, I can't tell the age if it is Japanese, I'm afraid.
