Does anyone know what this is?

by Angela
(Tennessee)

This is a great piece to me. I love it. I am not sure if it is authentic though. I have researched the marks and I believe it says Qianlong Period Made. It shows signs of being old with the rust spots. It has small rust spots in the inside and outside and a very large rust spot on the bottom. The color appears to be underglaze lavendar-ish blue and white and the pattern is, I think, of the period as well. But I am not a collector, just ok at researching things online. Can anyone tell me what this dish is called and if it is could be authentic Chinese porcelain of the Qianlong Peiod? Thanks!!!

porcelain box

Hi Angela,
Although the mark is a Qianlong mark, it is apocryphal and was added only for decoration. Marks of this type were used only in the 20th century (second half). The flower decoration is also not showing any signs of "antiqueness", and is definitely not from the Qianlong period.

Do I see it right in these photos that the box has five corners? While this would not be impossible it would at least be very rare. In traditional Chinese porcelain shapes non-round items usually have either six or eight corners, but not five. That in itself means that the shape also is not right for an antique, I'm afraid.
