chinese vases

by Robert McClancy
(New York)

received 2 vases which belonged to my great grandmother in Scotland. I am attempting to learn what the marking's painted on the base mean. Pictures of the vase's can be added if needed.

Hello,
I would be interested to learn why this indicates Kutani? I'm really curious about the marking as I have seen similar numbers before.
I do not know if the decoration is Kutani style, but the name "Kutani" means and is written with the characters for "nine valleys". So if the numbers on the foot rim indicate Kutani, what do they relate to?

I have since learned that the symbols being painted in red is indicative of "Kutani". Still attempting to date them.

The red characters are the characters for the numbers 5 and 7. No idea what that stands for.
