We are trying to zero in on the identification and probable authenticity of this vase.
It was inherited recently from a French estate.
Many thanks for any help.

Hello,
On page http://www.chinese-antique-porcelain.com/chinese-porcelain-marks.html you will find a description that fits your mark. Those on your item are legible Chinese characters which say made during Chenghua reign. But this is more likely a vase made around 1900.
To judge whether the vase is old may require close-up shots of bottom and side with good resolution, to check for age signs. If you wish you can upload more images.
