Canton Authenticity - Figure in Tea House

by njsparky
(stuart florida usa)

My mother has a nice collection of Canton. She claims authenticity is verified by the figure in the tea house. Can you expound upon this theory. Thanks!

authenticity
by: peter

Hello,
Not sure whether or not you are referring to the willow pattern? Otherwise I could not imagine a figure in a tea house... which in this case is in a pavilion in the lake.

Anyway, there is NO single point of reference for authenticity for ANY Chinese porcelain type. Shape, pigment color, painting style, age signs, and a number of other factors are ALL included in the evaluation of authenticity.
With only a part of the decoration taken as evidence for authenticity, the fakers would have easy work to prove "authentic" antiques.
