deer head vase
by: peter

The name is a translation of the Chinese and comes from the deer heads at the sides (although some look more like goat heads). These are not handles.
In Chinese such small decorations are called "ears", by the way, they are only for decoration, not for holding items.
Pictures are too small. The bottom, especially the foot rim concerns me, because if it is round and gray in the majority of cases it is 20th century. The only period when such foot rims existed is the Tongzhi reign, as far as I know. But they are mostly seen on high-foot offering plates for the altar.
