Black vase/jar: is it chinese?

hello,
it was giving to me by a rich man from West vancouver and he insisted that, the vase/jar is Chinese.
so here I am looking for help.
it is 11" high x 9" diameter

Hi,
Yes, could be Chinese, but where made or when is difficult to know with this type of item. Seems to be a common jar that could have been made in many kilns.
