Black Song Celadon?

by Kenny Kumala
(Singkawang, Indonesia)

Hi Peter,
This is another items I cannot identify it. It's a small bowl, but interesting is it has a leaf under the Glace. And my question how can a leaf can 'survive' at >1000 Celsius? I need your and friends opinion about this item,

Regards,
Kenny

Hi, what you see is not the leaf but the impression of the leaf.
As far as I know the leaf is stuck on the unglazed brown clay and then the black glaze is applied over it. During firing the leaf will be burned, and because the black glaze does not adhere to the clay, it appears brighter.
