Asian Jar

by Peter
(kingston, ny, USA)

I purchased this jar at an auction very inexpensively and can't find anything like it online, jar is about 6 inches in height, so I have nothing to compare it to, any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to know the history(if any!)

patterns

Hi, for me it is the dotted patterns. The Japanese are very fond of this decoration technique, using dotted lines and patterns. You will find these on certain ceramics, but also on many traditional crafts, in Japan. Even on leather, although in such cases it is probably lacquer, not enamel.

thanks!

Thank you both, is that style, the paint? It almost looks like jade, just wondering if this is a technique.

Hello,
To me this looks like a fantasy creation using various painting methods, including Japanese, but it is likely modern Chinese.

not Chinese

The decorative style and pattern do not look Chinese. This maybe Korean, Japanese, or from other parts of Asia. It looks modern, almost like a piece of folk art.
