Antique Chinese fish bowl?

I was given this bowl by a friend whose mother had had it for a long time. Can you tell me anything about it? It has gold throughout, but you can't see it very well in these amateur photos. Sorry about the photographer!

Japanese bowl
by: peter

Hello Meg,
This is a Japanese bowl.
The mark is a Chinese mark used already during the Ming dynasty, but Japanese potters sometimes copied Chinese marks.
I also doubt that it is a fish bowl. These are usually more thickly potted and have a rim that is turned inward or outward.
To get information on Japanese porcelain I would recommend to visit the forum at asianart.com.
